ABOUT
Sosse Georgine Parvula Serpenti (2001, Amersfoort)
is an illustrator and visual artist with a focus on people and the worlds they inhabit. Sosse is fascinated by closed-off subcultures, rich in unusual aesthetics and etiquette. With an anthropological and journalistic approach, she documents her experiences within these groups through visual reports. Beneath surface appearances, she digs into underlying vulnerabilities and social themes such as faith, gender, and the comical tragedy of everyday life.
A sharp observer, Sosse distorts everything she sees in her own way.
The plasticity of the human body and the fluidity of line are recurring elements in her work. Through distorted perspectives, she plays with the malleability of reality.
Originally a dedicated 'drawer', her practice has expanded to include paint, clay, textiles, and other mixed media. Every idea begins with pencil on paper, followed by an exciting and liberating search for the material that suits the image best.
Sosse loves diving into intricate details and cheeky visual jokes, but she also embraces working on larger artworks and projects.
In three words, she describes her work as
versatile,
observational, and cartoony.
