My Year of Rest and Relaxation - Ottessa Moshfegh ☁️
On New Year’s Day, I devoured this book in one sitting, and it hasn’t let go of me since.
A cynical woman in her twenties is overcome by grief and decides to "relax" for a year by locking herself in her New York apartment and completely giving in to sleep. With her hands full of sleeping pills, she takes us along into her life and dream world filled with childhood trauma, gossip, and large mugs of coffee with extra milk and sugar.
✷ Genre: contemporary literature
✷ Themes: trauma, addiction, grief, pop culture, and consumerism
